History Juventus vs Munchen

Respect abounds between Bayern and Juventus

FC Bayern München midfielder Toni Kroos and Juventus director Pavel NedvÄ›d agreed that the clubs' quarter-final draw was "one of the most difficult" either side could have got.

The reigning champions of Italy have been drawn to face the current champions of Germany in the quarter-final stage of the Champions League.
The sides have in fact met several times in the last ten years, with a total of six meetings contested since 2004. However, next month’s encounter will be the first in the tournament’s knockout stage.
2004 – It all began on 19 October at the Delle Alpi, when Nedved scored a decisive winner to secure three points. The Bianconeri then travelled to Germany three weeks later where they recorded another triumph as Del Piero found the back of the net to guide Juve to a top of the group finish.
2005 - The very next season, there was another double header scheduled in the group phase. The first clash took place in Munich, with the Germans running out 2-1 winners as Ibrahimovic’s strike proved too little too late after the hosts had established a two-goal lead through Deisler and Demichelis. The return-leg in Turin saw the score reversed, a double from Trezeguet handed Juventus the three points despite Deisler scoring for the visitors. Juve again finished top of the group, with Bayern qualifying in second place.
2009 – The second match of a disappointing Champions League campaign took Juventus to the Allianz Arena in Munich, where the two sides played out a goalless stalemate. In the return fixture, the last match of the group, a draw would have seen the Bianconeri advance in the competition, but the Germans responded to Trezeguet’s early strike with goals from Butt, Olic, Gomez and Tymoshchuk to round off a 4-1 triumph. The result condemned Juventus to Europa League action, while Bayern Munich went on to reach the Champions League final, where they were beaten 2-0 by Inter.
